Heart-to-heart: Did I change in the last year?

Hi guys!
Not long before 2018 is over. Wow~!
I feel like so many things happened this year, good things mostly. And I had this topic written down on my journal for the longest time now, I thought it'd be perfect for the end of the year. Cuz this time I really think I've changed in many ways, not like other years where I was sharing how I was feeling great when I actually wasn't. I really wanted to believe that but, I can feel it for real this year. So, grab a cup of coffee because... I feel like this is going to be a long read.
You've been warned.

I won't go through everything that happened years ago and how I felt because I feel like it's a little pointless now. I'll just go back to earlier this year when I came back from Spain. I truly believe that trip was just what I needed to feel like myself again.
It was not only my first time traveling all alone but, I never traveled that far. Yes, I was nervous about what could happen but, it was an exciting adveture at the same time. While I was there it felt so nice to have a fresh start with new people, people who didn't know me, people I didn't have a past with. Of course I missed my friends and I had my mom there with me but, you know what I mean, right?
It was a liberating feeling to leave all the problems, worries and negativity behind and just focus on me and my new adventure.

You know when you watch those movies where people go through rough times and they take a long trip to feel better? I felt like that!! It is true that going away for a while helps you to clear your mind and heart and just focus on the good, what you want and what you need.

While I was there, I started noticing how some "fake friends" started naturally separating from me. Maybe it was jealousy, maybe it was just meant to be. And instead of feeling sad, I felt relieved for some reason. On the other hand, some other friends were just so happy for me and we were all looking forward to see each other. I think I got to let go of a lot of things, feelings and even people while I was there.

I wouldn't say I felt like a "new me" when I came back but, I defo felt like myself again, in a better version. More independent and as cheerful as I used to be.
Things kinda started falling back into place as I became a positive person again. I found a job right away, a job that gave me a new experience as a teacher and helped me grow in a professional way as well as in a personal way and it was a school I really wanted to be a part of.  I'm still a bit insecure at times but, I wanted to challenge myself and prove to me that I can do new things, things that are outside of my comfort zone. Which didn't happen before, and I did.
The fake people continued to leave my life. Do I regret spending time with them? Not really, cuz back then I really believed in them but, I also don't regret letting them out of my life.

But as some people left, my relationship with other friends became a lot stronger, I got reunited with some old friends and I couldn't be happier and I also met great people that even tho I can't call all of them friends, they are really nice and fun to spend time with.
I noticed that back then not all of my relationships (call it work, friend, partner, etc) choices were exactly the best. Many people were so toxic and negative, and they were sucking up all my positivity. Now I am surrounded by people who are positive, inspiring and supportive. But most important, they are honest.

When I changed my environment, things seemed to flow in a better way.

As for me... well, I can think of many small things I do now that I didn't used to do before such as: being more independent in many ways. I used to need someone to always go with me to do things or go places, now I can do my own things on my own with no problem at all. I hated the idea of being alone and now I am ok with that.
I was always looking or a way to please others so everyone would like me, now I know not everyone will like me and it's ok, life goes on. You can't please everyone even if you try.
I used to put everyone before me and as much as I love someone, I can't do that anymore. I will always be there for the people I love and help as much as I can but, I should come first. And that doesn't mean I'm selfish.
I am there when I'm wanted and if I'm not wanted, no biggie. I've learned you can't push someone to be with you even if you want it. It is better to let go and accept things as they are.
I'm also learning to deal with changes, and I think I'm getting better at it.
I realized I don't need someone to be happy, I have to build my own happiness and if someone wants to be a part of that, they are more than welcome.
All these may sound like something too obvious or normal for some but, these were things I struggled with years ago, say 1 or 2 years ago.

I believe changing is a healthy thing, we all change. For whatever reason but, we just do. But I also think it is important to stay true to yourself and don't let people or events change who you are.

So, do I still miss hoy my life was? Not gonna lie, I do miss parts of it. But I do understand there is no way to go back to the way things were. Most importantly, did I change in the last year? Yes! of course I did. But I changed without losing my essence. I'm still the cheerful, childish girl who loves to dress up and watch anime. I'm still dreaming about having my own love story. I'm still silly, I laugh loudly, I embarrass myself and others and I love to celebrate others' happiness and success, I cry a lot, I share and yeah, I'm still clueless about many, maaaany things in life but, I'm smarter, stronger and more independent. I value real friends a lot more and I'm a tiny little bit more adventurous.
But most important thing is, I can honestly say I am happy.

And, I think this is it for this post. You know, I always feel like sharing these kind of post at the end of the year. It helps me to look back and see what has changed. All in all, I can say this year was good to me. Did you change in the last year? Feel free to share your experience!
Also, hello Winter, Happy Yule.

My 5 Netflix show recommendations

Hi darlings!
Not long ago I shared some of my mom's Netflix recommendations and now it is my turn. And it's perfect timing since Winter break will start soon for some.

NOTE: Once again, all the shows descriptions are from Netflix and other sites.

Here we go!

📺 Aggretsuko

Retsuko is 25 years old and single, who works in the accounting department of a Japanese
trading firm. Facing constant frustration every day from pushy superiors and annoying co-workers, Retsuko lets out her emotions by going to a karaoke bar every night and singing death metal. After five years of working the daily grind, her relationships with her various co-workers begin to shift and alter her life and personality drastically.

My friend Lu got me into this anime, it is so relatable and fun to watch. Plus, (most of ) the characters are cute looking, because yeah, Sanrio. The episodes are really short so, it's easy to finish the season. I just saw there will be a Christmas special. Can't wait!!

📺 Midnight Diner Tokyo Stories

Midnight Diner is a Japanese TV series based on the manga of the same name. The show

focuses on a midnight diner, the chef, known only as "The Master", and his involvement with his customers.
Generally, each episode deals with a drama focused on a particular customer. The plot will generally offer some philosophical lesson as part of the story,
be it simple or complicated. Some of the stories are lighthearted, others more dramatic.
Each episode will focus on a particular dish, often the favorite of the character that the episode is about, which relates to
the story, and briefly show the preparation of it.

I loved this one. Not only for all the japanese food but, also because you get to see a different story in each episode so, it's hard to get tired of it.
Warning: Be ready to feel hungry after watching it.

📺 Stalkers who kill

This true crime series shows real and dramatized footage of murders committed by stalkers, whether former lovers, co-workers or even family members.

I was so obsessed with this show. I love murder cases and this one made it more interesting with the dramatized footage. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a second season.

📺 Nurses who kill

Top medical, criminal and psychological experts analyze the motives and methods of nurses who use their positions to kill rather than heal.

Similar to Stalkers who kill but I honestly find Stalkers... a bit more interesting. still worth watching tho.

📺 Chilling adventures of Sabrina

The path of night or the path of light? On the eve of her 16th birthday, half-mortal, half-witch Sabrina Spellman has a critical choice to make.

This is my fav of them all. I've always been a Sabrina fan, not only Melissa Joan Heart's Sabrina the Teenage Witch but, I also liked the Disney versions, the videogame versions, Sabrina in general.
I have to accept I had my doubts before watching but the trailer looked dark and, it got my attention. Now I am obsessed! I love its darkarness, the characters, the fashion, the scenery(?) and all that magic! Can't wait to watch the Midwinter's tale and of course, the next season.

That's it for my Netflix recommendations. Hope you enjoy, and feel free to comment if you've seen these shows or, if there's a show you'd like to recommend.

November Favorites 2018: Beauty, yummies & events!

It's official! 2018 is pretty much gone~

Wow! this month defo flew by! It's been very busy and full of great things and... a few not-so great but, that's life, right?
Between all the stress at work and the holidays I tried my best to put together a few things I loved this month. it may not be much but, yeah. Enjoy!!

❥ BEAUTY

I've been using the Miniso Nourishing Moisturizing Toner. I had my doubts at first because it was actually very cheap but, I was surprised to see it actually works pretty well.
Product Features: Mild and moisturizing formula. Giving maximum hydration and nourishment to your dry skin. Leaves your skin hydrated, mosturized and soft.

Even tho the formula is a little thick, it feels so fresh and watery once you apply it and, it absorbs really quick. It does't have a strong scent to it, which I like and... it's pink! Hehe.

It does what it claims to do, I've been using it every night and day and my skin feels soft and hydrated. (how many times you've read "hydrated so far? lol")

❥ YUMMIES

I've been obsessing over the McCormick Bacon Mayonnaise since I found it earlier this month. Maybe it's not a new thing but...it is for me!
I can't get enough of it! My latest craving has been tortilla chips with bacon mayo. (don't judge!)
It has a pretty strong bacon flavor and small pieces of it. SO.FREAKING.GOOD!

❥ TV

Ok, I know I mentioned this drama like two months ago but! I finally finished watching it and I loooooved it. Because this is my first life was such a fun, emotional and relatable drama to watch. Great fashion, unbreakable friendships, love stories and comedy.

Once again, highly recommend it.

One day, I'll take a wedding pic like this with the besties ♡

❥ CLOTHES

My Salem t-shirt had to make it to this list. I got it earlier this month when I was still saying goodbye to Halloween (add to that my obsession with Sabrina is back thanks to netflix) and I fell for it as soon as I saw it.

It is from Cuidado con el Perro and I've been wearing it a lot cuz, Halloween is never over for me. Bwahaha!

❥ EVENTS

This month mom and I got the change to be reunited with my uncle from Canada. Last time we saw him was a year ago, I believe and it was just so much fun. He's one of those people who can easily make you laugh. Granpa was happy to have his children reunited.
Hope to see him again soon.

And, that's it you guys! I'll see you next month with the last favs post of the year~

Happy Holidays!

4 Netflix show suggestions | Mom Edition |

Hi loves!
So, mom and I have been watching a lot of Netflix lately so, I thought we should share some of our fav shows with you guys. Since not everyone like everything Asian and horror like me, sharing some of my mom's favs seemed like a good idea, in case you're looking for more variety of genres.

Let's see...

NOTE: All the plots are from Netflix & other sites. I suck at writting those things... hehe
📺 Cable Girls (Las chicas del cable)

"In 1920s Madrid, four women at the National Telephone Company ring in revolution as they manage romance, friendship and the modern workplace. ... Lidia, Marga, Carlota and Ángeles pursue their dreams, seek independence and build friendships as telephone operators in 1920s Madrid."

📺 Locked Up (Vis a vis)

"Macarena Ferreiro is a young naive woman who falls in love with her boss and, because of him, commits several accounting manipulation and misappropriation crimes. She is accused of four tax crimes, and consequently she is imprisoned at the Cruz del Sur Prison as a precautionary measure with very high bail set. She has to face the emotional shock that being in jail means to her, as well as the complicated relationship between the inmates; among them Zulema stands out as the most dangerous prisoner.

In prison Macarena will soon realize the chance to survive the projected seven-year sentence she will likely receive if convicted depends on changing, evolving and becoming a very different person. Meanwhile, in order to pay the bail, her family outside gets involved in finding a large sum of money hidden somewhere, in dispute with Zulema's boyfriend, who will lead the Ferreiros to a terrible situation."

📺 The Affair

"A struggling novelist and a young waitress strike up an extramarital relationship that promises to forever change the course of their lives. At once deeply observed and intriguingly elusive, The Affair explores the emotional effects of an extramarital relationship."

📺 The House of Flowers (La casa de las flores)

"In this dark comedy, a wealthy matriarch tries to maintain her family's facade of perfection after her husband's mistress exposes their dirty secrets."

Collective Makeup Haul: Lips, nails & brushes

Hey! Long time no haul!

I've been collecting a few things for a month now that I've been meaning to share in here and I have't for whatever reason so, now that October is over (rhyme!), I'm going to do it.
Some things were gifts and I bought others. I'm sure there are a few things missing because I've been using them but, because of that I can give you a small review or at least an impression on them.

Let's get started!

💚 NAILS:

These 3 babies are from Essence, which has become one of my favorite nail polish brands since I discovered them back in Spain and I finally found a place to get them here so, expect more Essence in the future, hehe.
All of them are from The Gel Nail Polish line.
Ok, two of them are glitter nail polishes: "Crashed the party" (101) which is a silver color that I already have but my mom got me another one because I really liked it. And "Rainbow with Sprinkles" (111) which is a beautiful pale pink. Both are very long lasting. I usually feel like glitter nail polishes are little more long lasting than creamy or metallic ones. Maybe it's just me.

The other one is called "Rockablue" (115). It looks like a pastel blue/gray shate to me. It has a subtle pearly finish and... the packaging is really cute.

💚 BLUSH:

I loved the Mosaic Blush I got from Essence almost a year ago, I always get so many nice comments when I'm wearing it so I decided to buy another shade, "Natural Beauty" (35). This one is a mix of pinks and peachy colors, one of the pink colors has a glowy finish which gives your skin a very nice and fresh look.
I believe they have one more shade for this Mosaic Blush line... maybe I'll get it next time!!

The next one is from Karuku. It is a brand I recently discovered and I gotta say, I've been liking it so far. They had a huge variety of colors and they were having a 2x1 sale so I got one for me and one for my mom. It doesn't have a special name, and the color is number 3, which is a pink color with a matte finish.
I really like the color but, I also want to mention a few things I appreciate about the packaging: It comes with a back mirror (a decent one, not one of those super magnifying mirrors), a small brush and the flower details on the product make it look really cute even tho the packaging is pretty simple and clean. Not to mention the price was pretty good. I feel like some more expensive products don't have these little details sometimes so yeah, that was a nice "extra".

💚 LIPS:

First we have the Miniso So Chic Korean Style Lip Tint in number 05 "Sakura Pink". Wanna guess why I got it? Yup, Sakura.
I thought the color would be a lot lighter but it is actually a bright pink, it is very pigmented and watery. It smells delicious! Reminds me of aloe water. (doesn't taste like it tho)
Application wise is great but I feel like it sets on the line of my lips once it dries so I have to apply lip gloss or something on top to make it look more hydrated.
Packaging is pretty! Pink, white and a hint of gold.

I quickly mentioned the next one in my latest favorites post. My Colors Lip Gloss in number 08. It looks pretty similar to the Sakura pink but, it is slightly darker and this one has a matte finish. Which is funny considering it says it has a "shine effect"
It is super duper long lasting and it doesn't make my lips feel sticky like most matte liquid lippies do. The packaging reminds me to the TonyMoly Cats Wink line.

Lastly, we have a mini liquid lipstick from The Balm. This was a gift from my friend Ceci. The color is called "Dedicated" and even tho it is a hot pink color, it has a red undertone.
Durability is great too! And it smells like choco-mint so...the yummiest!

💚 EYES:

I also got this loose Shimmering Eyeshadow from Bissú when I went to the store with my firend Ceci a while ago. The color is super pretty and pigmented but, I gotta be honest, I haven't used it much.
The color is number 27 and it's a champagne  pink shade.

💚 BROWS:

Also from Bissú, is this brow pencil in "Lechero". They had a huge variety of colors and they all had coffee related names. It comes with a brush on one end and the pencil on the other.

💚 BRUSHES:

The eyeshadow brush is from Essence and it says "Afraid of nothing" I believe it was from a collection but I honestly don't know more about it.
The other two were a part of a Fairy inspired brush set from Spain. They are really cute and soft.

And, that is it from my collective makeup haul! See you next time!
