Out & About: 💀 Alfeñique 2023

I don't really post about many local events and stuff but this one is one of the few I really enjoy. The Alfeñique Fair (Feria de Alfeñique) is a traditional fair held every year In the city center. It usually starts at the beginning of October and ends after the day of the dead. (November 19th this year)

In this fair you can find a big variety of seasonal candy, alfeñique candy figures and other day of the dead arts and crafts.

This fair is big tho, many people from different places come to see it. It's alwasy suuuuuper crowded. But I get it, everything is so colorful and fun.

I remember going to this fair when I was a little girl. Grandpa used to take me and my sister every year to buy some candy, then my dad and now, I like to go with my friends at least once.

This year we found they had different types of cultural activities, especially for kids.

I'm gonna share some of the pics we took this year (I'm including the ones my friends took too) for you to see the things you can find there.

You can find a big variety of candy here. From the traditional chocolate skulls, wafers and dulce de leche.

Sugar skulls are also very common.

We saw many skulls and skeletons dressed as different things. I'm not a big fan but, some of them are cool and very popular.

I always wondered why thet sell sheep...

There are many non-edible figures people like to buy for their altars or just to have as decoration.

I loved these animal cookies, they were really cute.

We also found marigold candles this year. Some of them smelled really nice.

I love it when they have animal stuff

Sometimes you can also fins a couple of Halloween related stuff. This year they had a lot of Nightmare before Christmas goodies.

Those are just a couple of things you can find there. I feel like I didn't even show half of what they have. We spent hours walking around and deciding what to get. I like it because you can always find tourists and children and adults wearing costumes. It's a very friendly environment.

You can also find many photo spots with mexican Catrines and Catrinas.

There's a smaller Alfeñique fair closer to my house. It's not as crowded and a little cheaper because it's not as popular. But, I defo think going to the original one is the best option to have the whole experience, hehe.

I'm gonna finish this post with this super cute pink sugar cat skull my friend gave me. You know, I love my kitties.

And well, I hope you guys enjoyed this post with a big photo spam. Let me know if you'd like me to share mos posts like this one.

30 Spooky Halloween Questions 🕷

Many years ago I answered a Halloween questionnaire and honestly, it was a lot of fun so I decided to do it again this year. I don't know if a lot has changed when it comes to Halloween if we compare it with my previous one but, yeah. We're doing this anyway, hehe.

Let's start!

1. Favourite horror or Halloween-themed song?

Mmm, even tho it is not my favorite movie, I really like The Exorcist's theme song Tubular Bells. Also The Candyman's theme song. I find it creepy yet soothing at the same time. And if we talk about happier songs, I love The Monster Mash. It's a classic!!

2. Name something you wouldn’t want to run into in a dark forest or in an abandoned building.

More than something paranormal, I'd say a serial killer. I'm fascinated by them but, I wouldn't like to be chased by one.

3. Have you ever played with a Ouija Board?

No but, I'd love to! Thing is I do believe in those things so I kinda have some respect to it. But I defo think it'd be interesting.

4. Favorite horror monster or villain?

I've always loved witches and vampires so I'd say those are my favs. Especially witches. And as a villain/monster kind of thing, I'd choose Freddy Krueger.

Forever my Vampire love

5. The creepiest thing that’s ever happened while you were alone?

Other than feeling or hearing something, I don't think I've experienced something really creepy.

6. If you were dared to spend the night in a “haunted house”, would you do it?

I think I would but, not alone.

7. Are you superstitious?

I think I am but not super superstitious. Sometimes I even create my own curses, lolol. I do find them super interesting tho.

8. Do you ever see figures in your peripheral vision?

I used to back in my dad's house. It hasn't happened in a while.

9. Which urban legend scares you the most?

I don't think there's one that scares me right now. In the past, the whole "Ghost passenger" legends were kinda scary to me tho.

10. Do you prefer gore or thrillers?

Thrillers. I mean, I do watch gore movies but I don't enjoy them that much.

11. Do you believe in multiple dimensions or worlds?

I do! I don't know what's out there but, it'd be impossible to be the only dimension or world in the whole universe.

12. Ever made a potion of any sort?

I guess I did in the past. I used to buy these books for "teenage witches" and they came with spells and potions. I remember trying some spells to help me when I had exams and stuff but I don't remember potions.

13. Do you get scared easily?

It depends. I feel like now, I get more scared of real life things than paranormal stuff.

14. Have you ever played Bloody Mary?

No, but I always wanted to.

15. Do you believe in demons/the devil?

I mean, not in a religious way but I do believe there's good an evil so, yeah.

16. You're home alone but you hear footsteps in your house, what do you do?

Ah! this used to happen in a house we used to live in when I was younger but honestly, I don't think my sister and I did anything. If it happened now tho, It'd depend. I could go and check or just lock myself in my room. Hehe.

17. If you got trapped in one scary movie, which would you choose?

A Japanese one for sure! I love them so much.

18. If you could only wear one Halloween costume for the rest of your life, what would you be?

A very basic one, Witch. I just love them so much.

19. Would you ever go to a graveyard at night?

Defo! I'd love to just walk around and have a small paranormal investigation there!

20. In a zombie apocalypse what is your weapon of choice?

I talked with my students about this earlier this month and we agreed that somethings that gives you some distance from the zombies is the best option. Bow and arrow would be my choice.

21. Would you rather go to a Halloween party or go trick or treating?

Both are fun but, I guess I'm too old for Trick or treating so, Halloween party it is.

22. You're in a horror movie. Are you the final girl, the first to die, the comic relief, the skeptic, the smart one, or the killer?

I would like to be the killer or the final girl, haha! But I think I'd be more like the first one to die~ :')

23. Do you have to watch something happy after watching a horror movie so you can go to sleep?

Not really. I do have to watch something happy after I have a really bad nightmare tho.

24. Whilst watching scary movies, are you the person who yells at the characters, the person with their eyes covered the whole time, or the person who falls asleep?

I'm the person who gets mad at the characters but doesn't yell at them. I only cover my eyes when the movie is too gorey.

25. Are you the one who gets scared, or the one who does the scaring?

I'd say none? I like to get scared tho. But I don't really scare other people.

26. Favorite scary book?

Haven't read one. I'm not much of a reader.

27. How old were you when you saw your first horror movie?

I think I was around 5 years old when I saw my first horror movie. My grandpa took me to the cinema to watch one of the Child's play movies.

28. What was your first Halloween costume?

I don't really know. I remember having this pumpkin/witch dress but I don't thimk that was my first costume. I also found a devil costume pic from when I was in elementary.

29. What are you going to be for Halloween this year?

I'm gonna be Chucky! Haha.

30. If you could have a spooky halloween pet (black cat, owl, bat, rat, wolf), what would you pick?

Defo a black cat! I love cats and it is my dream to have a black one.

Aaaaand, that is it for this Halloween questionnaire. Feel free to answer it yourself and share with my! I would looooove to read your answers!

Happy spooky season! 🕷

🎃 My Halloween decor 2023

I am the kind of person who likes to live and breathe Halloween as soon as October starts so, a weekend before October started, I decided to decorate my apartment. It is the first time I officially, fully decorate it.
I haven't bought anything new this year really so, if you've seen my older Halloween decoration posts, you'll see some familiar items.

It's funny to think I used to put all these things in just one room. I was enough to decorate my dining-living area and my kitchen (just a little bit.) I defo want to buy more things tho.

So, let's take a look around my Witchie's house! Hehe.

My entrance is actually super simple. I don't have much space to decorate so, I kept it simple. The Happy fall sign is form Prichos, the vampire face ring thingy is from Waldo's Mart and the pumpkin is something we had in my dad's house and decided to take it with me when I moved. Not really sure where it is from.

When you walk in the house, there is a small table thingy to leave keys and things I don't wanna forget when I leave the house.

The frame doesn't look that great but, I haven't printed the pic I want for that specific frame, hehe. Anyway, here we have my very old, plastic cauldron and other witchy random things I've collected throughout the years. LOL you can kinda see my cat's scratcher too.

Then, the first area you'll see is my dining room, which in general, is not fully decorated so, I didn't really did much there.

Since this shelf was one of the last things I decorated, I pretty much threw all the leftover things I had there and tried to make them work.
P.S. the box next to it is also Masha's and Sassy's. They love it way too much and, even tho I don't like having it there, I don't have the heart to throw it away.

In here we can find some random things from Waldo's mart, the 3 witches were a pressie from my grandparents, I found the cat plate in a garage sale and the skull bowl is from Walmart.

I thought this corner looked kinda cute tho. here's where I have a record player that was a hand-me-down from Sari and it's where I also display my beautiful Japanese sake set. Here I put some Jack-o-lanterns from Walmart (they light up with batteries) along with my Halloween glasses.

In between my living room and dining room I have my coffee station and a small bookshelf that I also decorated a little.

I changed all the pink stuff for Halloween goodies. On the top shelf I put some seasonal mugs and teaspoons, a skull jar I bought at Walmart many years ago and a plastic tombstone tray from Prichos. I believe you can still find those. The witch on the center (which is actually a pen) was a craft a coworker gave me many long ago and, next to it is my Salem figure that came with my Sabrina the teenage witch doll.

The decorations on the wall were changed to halloween ones but, I couldn't remove the sticker cuz the paint would also come off with it. Lastly, I added the black owl cuz, I don't really know where to put my stuffies anymore~ Hehe.

This bookshelf is across the coffee station. I keep lost of random work related things, stationery and my manga so, it usually looks messy. But I try to keep the top nice and pretty with some vinyl records in a vintage basket. Here, I put a bat frame I made a million years ago, an old Halloween wreath and a baby Medusa. I also put some random candle holders and a mini tombstone lamp. I believe they are from Waldo's. I'm not too sure tho, they're old.

And well, the Yayoi Kusama pumpkin, isn't really a Halloween decoration but, I thought it'd look nice if I included it in the pic. Still looks kinda seasonal.

Let's move to my favorite place this year, my living room. I think this is the room that was the most decorated.

Loved how these shelves above my sofa turned out. Here I just put some bleeding candles from Walmart, some creepy portraits and random thingies that are mostly from Waldo's and Prichos.

Every year I think about changing the frames of the creepy pic cuz they are plastic but, I always forget. The mini painting in the center is something I drew last month with my friends. I loved how it turned out.

The frames I have next to the sofa are pretty old too. Some of them are drawings my sister made. My creepy bears are from different expos. (TNT and  Hallow Fest)

On the window we have my classic blood stains.

While writing this post I realized I left my tablet there and... it doesn't look that nice. Oh well~ My favorite item here would be my rat! Haha. I randomly bought it years ago and it's so ugly, that I can't help to love it!

The cat Halloween party picture was a gift from my best friend, it's purrrfect!

Right above the table I have this Nightmare on Elm Street drawing my sister gave me years ago.

Moving on, there's my TV stand, I decided to hang an old creepy cloth along with skull lights to make the wall look a little more Halloweenish. My living room is mostly pink so, yeah.

Close up to the things I have there. The skull, witch frame and green witch are from Prichos, I have some spooky-looking books and the notebook I recently received. It's super cool! Lastly we have a Witch hat my sister gave me as a present many years ago and, I used the ouija board bag to cover my wifi modem thingy.

And I think that is that for this area. Let's go to my kitchen now. Which is not fully decorated but, I did put little seasonal things here and there. Since I didn't decorate a kitchen before, I don't have much.

I decorated my fridge with these Halloween magnets I got from Avon (I believe) many, many years ago. They are a bitsy bit funny looking but, I still like them.

Here I just hung a few things. The Hocus Pocus sign was a gift from my friends, the witch a gift from my grandparents. The black cat bowl is from JOI and the "spells book" on the back is a notebook my sister decorated years ago.
I feel like it's hard to decorate a kitchen when you have to keep things functional.

Little bat in front of the eggies house. (I don't remember where is it from)

This witch sign is replacing my wood Hello Kitty chopping board for now. Plus, "witch at work" - "potion making / cooking" seemed appropriate.

Witchy towel from JOI! I will change it later cuz I also have a skull one.

Ghost salt shaker from Waldo's and halloween straws from Walmart.

Lastly, we have this skull, ghostly thingy hanging from my kitchen window.

The last thing I decorated was my bathroom.

This is the only part of the bathroom I decorated. The gel stickers on the mirror were a gift, I believe the "Trick or Treat" sign is from Waldo's and the Ah! Monsters figures (which I love so so much) came with some candy my dad brought from a trip, a long time ago.

And, there you have it guys, my Halloween decoration this year. As you can see, most of the things I have are super cheap but, they work, haha. I usually add a couple of new things every year so, I'll update you if I get more.
I really hope you enjoyed this mini tour. Feel free to share your Halloween decoration with me, I'd really love to see!

Here are some of my older Halloween decor posts:
