Out & About: 💀 Alfeñique 2023

I don't really post about many local events and stuff but this one is one of the few I really enjoy. The Alfeñique Fair (Feria de Alfeñique) is a traditional fair held every year In the city center. It usually starts at the beginning of October and ends after the day of the dead. (November 19th this year)

In this fair you can find a big variety of seasonal candy, alfeñique candy figures and other day of the dead arts and crafts.

This fair is big tho, many people from different places come to see it. It's alwasy suuuuuper crowded. But I get it, everything is so colorful and fun.

I remember going to this fair when I was a little girl. Grandpa used to take me and my sister every year to buy some candy, then my dad and now, I like to go with my friends at least once.

This year we found they had different types of cultural activities, especially for kids.

I'm gonna share some of the pics we took this year (I'm including the ones my friends took too) for you to see the things you can find there.

You can find a big variety of candy here. From the traditional chocolate skulls, wafers and dulce de leche.

Sugar skulls are also very common.

We saw many skulls and skeletons dressed as different things. I'm not a big fan but, some of them are cool and very popular.

I always wondered why thet sell sheep...

There are many non-edible figures people like to buy for their altars or just to have as decoration.

I loved these animal cookies, they were really cute.

We also found marigold candles this year. Some of them smelled really nice.

I love it when they have animal stuff

Sometimes you can also fins a couple of Halloween related stuff. This year they had a lot of Nightmare before Christmas goodies.

Those are just a couple of things you can find there. I feel like I didn't even show half of what they have. We spent hours walking around and deciding what to get. I like it because you can always find tourists and children and adults wearing costumes. It's a very friendly environment.

You can also find many photo spots with mexican Catrines and Catrinas.

There's a smaller Alfeñique fair closer to my house. It's not as crowded and a little cheaper because it's not as popular. But, I defo think going to the original one is the best option to have the whole experience, hehe.

I'm gonna finish this post with this super cute pink sugar cat skull my friend gave me. You know, I love my kitties.

And well, I hope you guys enjoyed this post with a big photo spam. Let me know if you'd like me to share mos posts like this one.

Magyc House

A few weeks ago (around July 16th) Magyc House opened and, from the moment I saw them online, I knew I had to go with my friends. Specially because of the Taiyaki! We all know how much I love desserts.

So yeah, las weekend we decided to go check it out and I have to say, we really liked it.

The place is divided in two parts, one is the showroom, which is basically a big store that has a bit of everything: anime and movie merch, clothes, accessories, japanese candy, etc. I didn't take any pictures there but we decided to explore the store before the cafeteria. We liked so many things! I have to go back with more money cuz they had lots of things I want.

After checking the store and buying just a couple of things (actually my friends bought more than me) we moved on to the cafeteria, which is right next to the store to get some Taiyaki.

I loved how the place is decorated! The walls are manga inspired, all black and white with led lights sign thingies that give a pop of color to the place. I forgot to take pics of the other walls but they are defo cool photo spots if you like anime and manga.

Even the tables had manga-like designs.

Their menu includes Taiyaki, of course, some drinks, manju and other snacks. Prices wise, I think it was reasonable, at least the taiyaki cuz guys, they are huge!!

You can customize your taiyaki with different toppings, sauces and choose your ice cream flavor.

The staff were really nice and patient with us, specially considering how loud we can be, hehe. One thing I did notice was the taiyaki and the drinks took a while to arrive.

In general, it was a fun experience and I know we will be back, whether it is to buy or to eat, or both! But, we will. Highly recommended if you're an otaku like myself or if you like desserts that can be a little extra and picture worthy. It's cool to have a place like this in my city.

I'll link their socials so you can check them out:

Loraine 花見 🌸

Last year when we first visited Café Loraine we heard they were having a Hanami event and even tho we really wanted to go, we couldn't because of work and well, the pandemic was a lot worse than how it is now.

Earlier this month, some of my friends wanted to have our own Hanami to celebrate the beginning of the Spring season. We didn't really see many flowers and as some of you might know, "Hanami" means Flower viewing so, I guess it was more like a Spring picnic. It was still fun tho.

Loraine's Hanami is an indoors picnic under a fake Sakura tree. We don't have real Sakura in my country so, is the closest we can get, hehe.

You have to make a reservation because they only allow 2 groups of 6 people max. And it's only on Thursdays. I believe they'll have it until April. I'm not sure tho.

They prepared this big tablecloth thingy with lots of pillows under the tree. Everything in pink and blue. This café is very pink, I love it.

We paid $343.00 for the whole thing that included: Maki, Pink Lemonade, Taro or pink Latte, a kiré, pink Hershey's, a plushie and socks because we couldn't stand on the tablecloth with our shoes. They also gave us a free milkshake coupon.

Our food came in cute baskets. And even tho the maki was a bit soggy for me, it was pink and blue, which made it super cute.

The Kiré was delish! I believe it was strawberry with blueberries and some flower petals. I just loved it. My taro latte was pretty good too.

Even tho we got different drinks, they were all pretty and decorated.

I think the bunny was the cutest

I think all in all, it was a great experience, defo worth it. I feel like they take care of the little things and I appreciate that. The staff is always super nice and the place is perfect for pictures!

Random photo dump 🌸:

We forgot to take a plushie group pic but we all got penguins. This is mine, Pen-Pen.

🌸

Can you see Pen-Pen?

Café Loraine has other seasonal events too. Hopefully we'll be able to go more often this year.
