Wotaku Ni Koi Wa Muzukashii Live Action

Last week, I shared my latest anime obsession: Wotaku Ni Koi Wa Muzukashii. Back then, I still had the live action movie pending but, I finally watched it!

Live action movies are always risky, most of them end up being really bad. But I guess it also depends on the type of stories they try to adapt. Since this one is more of a "normal life" kind of story, I think it's easier to have a good adaptation.

This live action movie was released in 2020 and, as the anime, it is a romatic comedy. Even tho the story is loyal to the anime, it is slightly different. Something I didn't expect was that, this movie is actually a musical!! I'm not sure how I feel about it. I mean, I kinda enjoy musicals but, they're not my fav thing and honestly, sometimes the songs felt a little tiring.

The differences were not thaaaat big tho, there is this part where Hirotaka tries to become an anime fan to have that in common with Narumi and, even tho it was kinda cute, it was never like that in the anime. There, they both just respected each other's likes and were ok with having different otaku interests.

The main characters were portrayed very well, not only personality wise but they also nailed the looks. Hirotaka is kinda cute, hehe. I was a little worried about Kabakura's orange hair for example cuz, I've seen very bad wigs in other live action movies. But no, it was ok. Sadly, the movie doesn't show much of Kabakura and Koyanagi's relationship. They do make appearances but don't have a big importance in the story. This movie is only focused on Nifuji and Narumi's relationship. I don't complain, they were my favs but I missed the other characters, especially Nao-chan, he's not even mentioned!

Left to right: Takumi Saitoh as Taro Kabakura, Kento Yamazaki as Hirotaka Nifuji, Mitsuki Takahata as Narumi Momose and Nanao as Hanako Koyanagi

Same as the anime, this movie has other anime and games references, the one I loved the most was the ending song, inspired by Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis, Evangelion's opening theme, which is one of my favorites.

I wouldn't say this movie is a bad one, I did enjoy it but it was not my favorite. It is fun and everything moves quickly but like I mentioned, the songs felt a little tiring and, I would've included the other characters too, they make the story more interesting and fun. I'd defo choose the anime over the live action movie.

Anyway guys, I think you'd have to watch it yourselves cuz I feel like sometimes I have opinions that are 100% different from other people's. Especially with these kind of things. So yeah, let me know your thoughts if you ever watch it.

I'll see you next time~! ♡
