What I've been watching lately 2023

Channeling my inner Orihime Inoue, hehe.

I'm currently waiting for some of my favorite anime to release new seasons and Spring break is close so, I thought it'd be a good moment to share some of the show's I've watched in case someone wants some ideas or has time to watch them. As usual, we have some anime and Japanese shows you can find on Netflix.

Let's get into it!

☆ Gokushufudou (The way of the househusband) Season 2

I already shared this anime last year, when I watched the first season. Tatsu is a former Yakuza who's now living as a househusband. Season 2 has only 5 episodes so far, I'm not sure if they will release more cuz according to the internet, it's supposed to be 10 episodes long. Each episode has like 2 or 3 mini stories and they always make me laugh a lot.

☆ The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House

This is an absolutely beautiful show about two best friends who move to Kyoto to follow their dream of becoming maiko but as time passes, they discover they have different skill and goals. I loved this show so much, not only because everthing is just so... cozy and beautiful but also because of the way they show the friendship between these two girls, they way they support each other and become each other's family while they work to make their dreams come true. Also the food! This is one of those shows that will make you hungry as you watch. Hehe. It is very short tho, it only has 9 episodes that went by super fast!

Recommended 1000%

☆ Junji Ito Maniac: Tales of the Macabre

I've always loved Junji Ito and the Nexflix series was not an exception. It shows 20 short horror stories in 12 episoeds. Apparently, they are the most famous stories from the author. Some of them are scary, some others just very weirs but, all of them are very interesting. Defo worth watching if you're a horror fan like me.

☆ Kantaro The Sweet Tooth Salary Man

This is a show I started watching years ago, then stopped, then started again until I recently finished it. It is a very awkward show that follows Kantaro, a salary man who likes to eat sweets and desserts in between working hours. He goes around, visiting restaurants and trying their desserts in a very secretly way. Cuz he shows himself as a very serious, almost emotionless person at work. I mostly watched it because of the desserts, haha. They show the preparation and ingredients behind each of them.

This show is 12 episodes long and, as the show goes, we'll meet other characters too. I don't know if I'd recommend it 100% but, it's entertaining.

☆ Detective Conan: The Culprit Hanzawa

This one is a spinoff of the Detective Conan anime that I love but still have a lot to get caught up with. in this 12 episode long series, we follow a black-silhouetted character, like the culprits we see on the show. He moves to Beika to complete his plan of killing someone. It is a funny show and we see cameos of the original characters in every episode, I loved that.

The show goes by pretty fast without becoming boring. If you like Detective Conan, you'd enjoy it too.

☆ Old enough!

I think I mentioned this show on a previous post. If you don't know this show, it is a very popular Japanese show that follows very young children going on their first errands ever. It's super cute amd lightweight. Season 2 has 10 episodes and they not just show the kids on their errand but they also show what happened to them years later.

☆ Aggretsuko season 5

Lastly we have Aggretsuko season 5. This season has 10 episodes and is mostly focused on Haida and Retsuko. Honestly it was my least favorite but sadly, it will be the last one. I've been following the show since 2018 so, I'm defo gonna miss it so much.

And there you have it guys, some show recommendations if you need ideas for this Spring break. If Japanese shows are not your thing, I have a small list of non-Asian shows that I might share soon.

See you next time~! ♡

Fullmetal Alchemist Live Action Prequel: The Revenge of Scar

On August 20th, Netflix released the 2nd Fullmetal Alchemist live action which will have a second part. This time I decided to watch it on the next day because, idk if you remember but, it took me forever to watch the first one.

Since it's still pretty new, I promise I won't spoil anything. I already had an idea of what to expect but I wanted to watch it, giving it a chance cuz the trailer looked good.

This time the Elric brothers will have to face Scar (along with the homunculus) and, even tho I remembered this character, I forgot about many things from the anime (it's been a while...). Scar wants revenge from the Ishval Civil War where most of the Ishval people where killed by the Amestrian Military, including his brother. Many Alchemists took part on this war so his goal is to kill them. That's the general idea.

We can see characters like Ling Yao, Lan Fan and May, who I remember as a small girl... I didn't remember much about them, I just know Lan Fan will get an automail later in the story, tee he hee.

He's cute

As from the military, we finally see Armstrong and King Bradley along with the others we saw on the previous movie, Riza, Roy and Hughes.

I was SO happy to see grandma Pinako, Den and a little more from Resembool. ♡ I loved to see Winry more involved in the story too and her interactions with Edward.

The previous movie had some emotional moments but I think this one hit me harder, haha. The whole story behind Winry's parents and how they died made me tear up a little. Specially after seeing Ed so involved even if he didn't know much about what happened.

Riza also had a bigger role this time and I have a feeling we'll see more from her in the second part.

I feel like, special effects and hair wise, they did impove if we compare it with the 1st movie.  Edward's hair wasn't exactly natural looking but it was better than before, same with Riza's, still could improve tho. I think Scar looked great and, Pinako and Hohenheim were my favorites. Can't forget about Al tho, he's always the cutest. The effects on some scenes could've been better (specially at the end) but, I don't complain.

I have to say, I didn't have many automail moments in this movie...

Idk what y'all think once you watch it and maybe, just maybe, my fangirl side is the one speaking but, I really enjoyed this movie! Like the previous one, it is loyal to the story and characters, it has lost of action but also a few funny moments (maybe not as many as the anime but, oh well~) and I'm looking forward to seeing the next one that will be released in September, I think.

Anyway guys, that's it for this post, I really wanted to share it because I need to share my obseesion with someone.

Tell me what you think, wil you watch it?

I couldn't find good FMA filters for this post but this one felt accurate. Those who know, know.

I finally watched the Fullmetal Alchemist Live Action Movie...

Ok, I know this movie is not exactly new, it's from 2017. It took me forever to watch it. We all know that live action movies are never that great (unless we talk about the Rurouni Kenshin movies, that is a whole different level). But I love Fullmetal Alchemist, I always have so I knew I was going to watch it eventually despite the bad comments about it. Specially because I saw they will release 2 more movies soon and Izumi will be there. I just love that character so much!

Remember these movie posts are not reviews, they are just a way for me to share my obsession, excitement or just random thoughts. So, let's talk about this live action movie...

To be honest with you, I didn't have any expectation. I watched the trailer when it first came out and I wasn't 100% happy with how the characters looked.

This first movie is based on the first part of the anime, where Ed and Al lose their mom when they are too young and try to bring her back using alchemy. When the y fail, Ed loses a leg and an arm and traps Al's soul into an armor to keep him in this world. After these events, they will dedicate their lives to find the philosopher stone to recover their bodies. They have many adventures and meet many characters along the way.

I love these two and their relationship

The movie is loyal to the anime, I won't complain. But they could've done a better job with some of the characters! Starting with Ed, he is my favorite character. I love how stubborn and short tempered he is but in this movie, I couldn't stop looking at the horrible, cheap looking wig they used! Even the color was terrible!! I couldn't take him seriously. Same thing happened with Riza, she's beautiful but the hair wasn't. Idk why they can't just dye their hair?! or buy a nicer wig~ In my opinion, Lust could've been sexier tho. At least I saw her as a very beautiful and sexy homunculus in the anime.

Not all of them were that bad tho, Hughes and Envy looked pretty good! Gluttony was creepy and that was enough for me. Winry (who is also a fav) had a few changes from the original anime character, but she was ok. I liked her. Alphonse was defo my favorite, as cute as the anime one. Another thing I really liked, and that's something I never paid much attention in the anime were the military uniforms! For some reason they caught my eye, they were well made and looked pretty cool.

Speaaaaaking of cool, LET'S TAKE A MOMENT TO TALK ABOUT THE AUTOMAIL! 😍 I don't know what others think but it was beautiful! I wish they had more scenes showing it. I was hoping to see Winry fixing it after Edward broke it on the first fight but, they never showed it. 💔

Sexy automail!

I found that Ed's automail was displayed in Osaka's Nanko ATC Museum. Somebody take me there!!

The special effects were not that great either. This story has a lot of alchemy, fighting scenes and fantasy characters but the way the effects were made, made everything look super fake.

Even tho it wasn't my favorite movie, I did enjoy watching it, it brought so many memories from the anime, helped me remember details I forgot about and also took me back to the time when I used to watch the show at my grandparents house. The good old days~

The second movie will be released sometime this year and I have a feeling I will be watching it. I really hope they make some changes to improve tho. I know Edward's hair looks a little better. At least from what I've seen in the trailers.

Tell me guys, did you watch this movie? Did you like it? Will you watch the new ones? Let me know!

What I've been watching lately 2022 #1

Surpringly, I've watched enough shows to share another show recommendations post. This time I can say, I already finished all of them.

You know that you will find some anime and Japanese shows for sure but, I do have two that aren't.

Let's do this!

The House

The house is a British stop-motion animated movie that tells 3 completely different stories, in different eras, all happening in the same house.

It is an adult movie and it kinda reminds me to the short animations I used to watch in Locotomía from Locomotion many years ago. It has this creepy vibe to it I really liked.

You can find it on Netflix.

Samurai Gourmet

This is another Netflix series about Takeshi, a Japanese man who just retired and as he tries to figure out with to do with his life now, he rediscovers his love for food and the memories each dish or place bring back. Takeshi is also a samurai fan so, he imagines a Samurai's adventures in all the different places he eats in.

I am a foodie so, I really loved this show. You can't help to feel hungry after each episode. The also explan each dish and its preparation whic I find interesting.

Aside from the food, the show feels very lighthearted, it's something nice to watch at the end of the day.

It only has one season with 12 episodes so far, dunno if they will have more.

☆ Aggretsuko Season 4

This is the latest season of Retsuko, the 25 year old red panda who isn't exactly happy with her job and other things happening in her life.

In this season we get to see and learn more about some characters and their lives. I'm a fan of this show since season 1 because, the characters are just so relatable and yeah, cute.

This season is 10 episodes and apparently, we'll have a season 5.

Shingeki No Kyojin the Last Season Part 1

Even tho the previous season was super confusing for me, this one helped me understand a lot more what was happening. As usual, it has a lot of action, sad deaths and unexpected twists. I feel like this show never diappoints, I would've loved to see Levi a lot more tho.

I'm currently watching part 2 and I'm loving it! I won't spoil anything, all I can say is, you have to watch it.

Last season part 1 has 16 exciting episodes.

Yuru Camp

This was a recommendation from the bestie and it was defo worth it (as most of her recommendations). It is another lighthearted show that follows the adventures of Rin, Nadeshiko and their friends as they go camping to different places in Japan.

They always eat yummy things so I'm always hungry when I watch it. I have to say I'm not a camping kind of person but watching this show makes me wanna go camping so bad!! Hehe.

Season 1 has 12 episodes and there's a second season I'm about to start watching soon.

Kimetsu No Yaiba Season 2, Entertainment District

When I first watched the show, I didn't think I'd love it this much. The second season starts where the Mugen Train left and it was as a good as the first one. This one focused more on Tengen Uzui (new husbando alert) and the usual main characters.

I missed Tomioka tho~

This season has 18 episodes. I know it's still kinda new so, I won't spoil anything.

Sweet Magnolias

Sweet Magnolias is one of the few American shows (if not the only) I'm watching. When the first season premiered, mom and I finished the show in less than a week, we were obsessed hehe. So I knew I had to watch the new season as soon as it was out.

This Netflix series is about 3 longlife friends and their lives in a small town. There are 10 episodes this season and to me, no episode was plain and boring. Really recommend it.

And that is it. As always, let me know if you have seen one of these or if you are planning to watch them. I'd love to know!!

See you next time~! ♡

What I've been watching lately (late 2021 til today)

I've been meaning to share this post for a couple of months now but I couldn't find the right time to write it. That's why you'll find shows that I mostly watched last year and others I'm still watching because they're ongoing or I haven't finished them yet. Most of the anime were recommendations from my friends.

They are in no order or genre and most, if not all, of them are anime or Japanese~ hehe.

Here we go!

 Ju-On Origins

Ju-On is a Netflix Horror series based on the Ju-On movie franchise. It's about a paranormal researcher who is investigating a cursed house. Through 6 episodes we can see different curses connected to this house. From what I know, it is season one so maybe they will come up with more episodes eventually.

☆ Cowboy Bebop Live Action

I know many people have mixed feelings and different opinions about this show but, 1: I watched it as soon as it came out and it's part of what I've watched lately and 2: I liked it. I won't talk about that much cuz I have a separate post about it. If you watched the anime, you know what this is about, if not, it is a show about space bounty hunters and their adventures trying to catch good bounties. They have totally different personalities and that makes it fun, plus they are always short on cash. Spike's past plays an important role in  his character, which I love. I know my description doesn't sound too good but Cowboy Bebop was and still is an amazing anime and I really recommend giving the Netflix's live action adaptation a chance. You may be surprised.

☆ Mieruko-Chan

Mieruko-chan is about a high school student who suddenly starts seeing ghosts and the way she has to deal with that in her everyday life. It is only 12 episodes long and it is really good! I really want it to have a 2nd season, there are a lot of things without answers! The ghosts are kinda creepy and some of them even have episodes showing their stories.

☆ Kimetsu No Yaiba

Who hasn't watched this show already? It took me a while to watch it but my friends were fangirling over it so, I decided to give it a chance and I loved it. I watched the 1st season and the movie before the 2nd season premiered. I don't think I'll talk about what this one is about cuz it is one of the most popular anime at the moment. Surprisingly, I'm caught up with the show so far and I'm really enjoying the new episodes.

☆ HoriMiya

This was another recommendation and guys... I'm obsessed! I've watched it like 3 times already. HoriMiya is a 13 episodes show about a popular girl at school (Hori) and a "gloomy" guy (Miyamura) who become really close friends and fall in love despite their differences. It is a romantic comedy that also has a live action version that I haven't seen and old OVA type of episodes back from 2012 I think. I defo, defo recommend this one, you can't get enough of it and its characters.

☆ Shadows House

This anime is completely different from other shows I've seen and it was also a recommendation. It tells the story of shadow people who live in a big mansion and have to use living dolls to express their emotions.  But, there are many mysteries behind the house and its people. Season one has 13 episodes and apparently there will be a second one, just dunno when.

☆ Senpai ga Uzai Kouhai no Hanashi

Aka "My Senpai is Annoying", is a romantic comedy that shows the development of the relationship between Igarashi and Takeda senpai. It also shows everyday situations at work and life in general. It doesn't only focus on these two characters. We get to see more from their co-workers, their life and relationships too. I really loved this show, it's very... lightweight(?). Season 1 only has 12 episodes. It went by too fast.

And I think that's it for now. I might make another post in the future since I'm watching other random shows on Netflix that have been entertaining for me so, yeah. Let me know if you have seen one of these or if you'd like to watch them.

See you next time!

Cowboy Bebop the Live Action Series

Last friday (nov. 19th), Netflix premiered the live action series of Cowboy Bebop and I spent my weekend watching it cuz, I don't know if you know this, but I love the anime. I've been a big fan for a long time now. Plus it felt like forever since the last time I got the chance to spend that much time watching a show.

You know how it is when it comes to live action series, we always have high expectations and it is disappointmentland most of the time. Especially with an anime like Cowboy Bebop that is loved by many. It is a classic.

To be honest with you, when I first saw the actors they chose to play Spike, Jet and Faye, I was like, bleh. I mean, Spike is one of my biggest anime crushes so, I really wanted someone who looked just like him. Faye and Jet were ok, but there was no Ed!! And I love Ed.

In the end, I loved these 3.

Then I got a little excited to find out that they would show Julia and Vicious! I was always fascinated by Spike's mysteryous past, his love for Julia and the relationship between those 3. We don't get to see much from it in the anime.

It was until I saw the opening, with the original song "Tank!" that I knew I had to give it a chance. I know that my opinion won't be the same as the one from hardcore fans but, yeah. I'll try not to spoil anything since I'm sure not everyone has seen it yet.

Remember this is not a review, just my opinion and random thoughts about a show I love and I'm fangirling over again. ^^ With that being said...

Where to begin? The show has 10 episodes so far, with music by Yoko Kanno which was great because music has always been a BIG part of this show. It is just amazing. The live action follows the anime in a way but also has many twists to it as well as some differences between characters.

I really wanted to like the show from episode one and after watching it, I had mixed feelings! The main characters (Spike, Jet and Fave) grew on me really fast. Jet is just super cool, I feel like Mustafa Shakir potrays him perfectly! Even the voice reminds me of Jet's voice in the english dub. Faye, played by Daniella Pineda is great too. Her outfit might not be the same as the anime but I think it has her personality. The only thing missing there was the sexiness. I always saw Faye as a sexy, badass girl. I still liked her a lot tho. And my one and only, Spike. Played by Jhon Cho, has such a careless, free personality that I loved. His fighitng scenes were amazing and he had this very Spike like sense of humor. I loooooved his relationship with Jet. Now I love him as Spike. Even tho there were some differences with the characters from the anime, you can't help to love them.

We also get to see a little from Julia (Elle Satine) and Vicious (Alexander Hassel) during the first episodes, as well as Ein! He's the cutest dog in the galaxy.

I do have to say tho, that the things I was looking forward the most, were not exactly my favs. Yes, I loved to see more Spike's past, how he met Julia, how their relationship developed and all that but, I always saw Julia as this strong and independent woman which wasn't the case here. Also Vicious wasn't my favorite. Don't get me wrong, the actor is good, I just think Vicious was more... imposing(?) in the anime.

The bounty heads, the places and ships were great! I think it had good special effects and I looooooved the action and fighting scenes.

The Bebop was amazing!

This has to be one of my favorite scenes

Shirtless Spike for no particular reason. ♡

I don't want to make this post a super long one so, all in all, I really liked the live action series! I had to watch more and more and now I'm obsessed. I hope they come up with a second season soon-ish cuz there's still a lot to see and unexpected plot twists that need a continuation. I also feel like it gives you answers to some things that were left unexplained in the anime. It was also cool to see references that only fans who watched the anime and the movie will notice.

Also, there a big, cool surprise at the end. Something that I was really looking forward too. Anyway, let me know if you guys already watched the show. Or, if you're planning to. Did you like it?

See you space cowboys~ ☆
