Alcalá del Júcar has to be one of the most beautiful places I've been so far. It definitely has a medieval vibe to it. It was also one of the coldest towns ever but it was worth it!
It is located in the province of Albacete, community of Castilla-La Mancha. Famous for its architecture, the Castle and of course, Don Quijote. I also discovered it is a witch town, which made me fell for it even more.
It climbs on a rock over a river meander, some houses are excavated in the earth and ascend to the Castle. Something you don't see everyday.
The castle, which apparently has an Arabic origin, is soooo beautiful and has the most amazing view when you reach the towers.
The color of that water tho! |
It makes you feel as if you were walking in a movie. Can't imagine how beautiful it is when it snows.
As for food, we went to this restaurant called "El Mirador" because it is located at the top of a mountain so you have the most amazing view of the whole town while you eat.
We had a 4 course meal that included: appetizers (forgot to take a pic), pasta or soup, main course and dessert with coffee.
I was so full but it was delicious!!
And finally, I got two souvenirs thingies here. One is wrapped and I think I'll leave it like that until I get home but it is a little witch on a stone that says "lucky witch" and the other one was this cute keychain. I wanted it because it has a witch. When I was paying for it, the lady told me I should make a wish for each charm it has and as they jingle with use, my wishes will come true. I just loved that!
The charms are: 3 keys, one horseshoe and a witch.
There is so much history behind this town, and who knows what the towers of the castle would say if they could talk, all the things they saw and experienced~ It is a place I'd love to go back again.
